The Cleveland Browns have really been delivering the drama on Hard Knocks this year, particularly their wide receivers. The first episode of the season featured Jarvis Landry’s classic speech in the receivers room.

And in the second episode, the whole world got a look at what exactly went down behind the scenes which led to Corey Coleman getting traded. Apparently, Coleman himself set the wheels in motion.

After getting demoted to the second team in favor of rookie Antonio Callaway, a frustrated Coleman confronted Hue Jackson in the head coach’s office and asked for a trade. (Transcription per Waiting For Next Year):

“Why am I running second team?” Coleman asked his head coach.

“What did you say?” Jackson responded.

“Why am I running second team?” Coleman repeated. “That sh*t’s crazy.”

“Go ask (offensive coordinator) Todd (Haley),”  Jackson said.

“If you don’t want me to play, why won’t y’all just trade me?” Coleman asked.

The Browns generously complied with Coleman’s request, shipping him off to Buffalo for a 2020 seventh-round pick the very next day.

While a mere seventh-round pick in exchange for a former first-rounder is obviously not an ideal return for the Browns, it seemed clear from that scene that Coleman’s relationship with the team had reached a breaking point.

The wideout suffered through back-to-back disappointing years, and since he was drafted by the previous regime, Jackson and GM John Dorsey didn’t have much incentive to continue backing him. It was likely best for both sides that they just move on from one another.

If Coleman has any more words for Jackson and his former team, he can say it himself when he faces them on Friday.
