The Cleveland Browns are a team in the NFL that has been desperate to find a franchise quarterback for many years. Although the struggling franchise has had opportunities in the NFL Draft, none have panned out, but it seems head coach Hue Jackson is very high on rookie DeShone Kizer after Week 1.

Jackson believes the Notre Dame product gives the team the prospect of a bright future ahead, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“Oh, absolutely,” he said. “At the end of the day, this young man gives us hope. He gives you an opportunity to make plays. When I looked up, the game was 21-10, and here we are in the fourth quarter with a chance to win the game late in the game and that's because of some plays he made.

“That is what you expect out of your quarterback. We are talking about a young rookie quarterback who is one of the youngest players in the league at that position. That is exciting for me. It's exciting for our organization.”

The Browns had a tough draw right out of the gate in the 2017 NFL campaign with Kizer and company facing arguably one of the best teams in the AFC, the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Cleveland wasn't given much of a chance to compete in this game, but they put up a fight thanks in part to Kizer's efforts in his NFL debut.

The 21-year-old rookie completed 20 of 30 passes for 222 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Kizer also made an impact on the ground with five rushes for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, the Steelers came out on top, but the Brown put up more of a fight than anticipated losing their season opener, 21-18.
