Austin Hooper is reportedly set to sign with the Cleveland Browns, which would make him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, Hooper's new contract is worth $44 million over the course of four years. Along with that comes $23 million guaranteed. The Los Angeles Chargers' Hunter Henry had temporarily been the highest-paid tight end at $10.7 million when he was franchise tagged.

The contract details aren't exactly surprising considering the interest in the two-time Pro Bowl tight end. Entering free agency, it had been cited that the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears were all interested.

However, it became clear at the start of free agency that Hooper was leaning towards the Browns. In fact, the young tight end stated the following to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

“Unless something comes up unexpected, then no question Cleveland is the leader,” Hooper told Schefter.

The 25-year-old tight end is coming off of his best season to date. He caught 75 balls for 787 yards and six touchdowns last season. That was despite the fact that he missed three games due to an MCL sprain in 2019.

One could argue that Hooper is arguably the best pass-catching tight end in the NFL. Through the first eight games, he caught 52 passes — fifth-best in the NFL. His 77.3 percent catch rate also leads all tight ends over the past three seasons.

He'll certainly add quite a dynamic to what could be an entertaining Browns' offense next season.
