Freddie Kitchens' promotion as Cleveland Browns head coach last offseason was supposed to be the beginning of a prosperous era for the AFC North franchise. However, the 2019 NFL season hasn't been favorable for Kitchens and company, with the Browns destined to finish under .500 no matter the result of Week 17's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kitchens, 45, is reportedly unconcerned about his job security heading into the 2020 offseason.

“Everybody in this building is pulling toward the same direction, and we’re close in a lot of areas now,’’ Kitchens said during his Monday press conference. “We’re really close. Sometimes that gets lost in the shuffle, but we know how close we are, our players understand how close we are and our players understand how they can do better and coaches understand how they can do better.

“I’m focused on doing my job right now, and I think that’s where they want my focus,’’ he said. “I have not gotten anything but total support from those guys. They want me doing my job, and that’s what I am trying to do on an everyday basis.”

“No. I got assurance when I got hired,’’ he said. “I have not and won’t [ask for it]. It’s just I’m doing my job today, and I will continue to do the best job I can possibly do.”

Firing Kitchens would surely be another sign for people to make fun of the NFL's perennial laughingstock franchise Browns after one season. Though, there is an argument that Kitchens is not the person to lead this team in the future.

Nevertheless, it's up to Cleveland's top brass to determine whether Freddie Kitchens belongs on the sidelines again despite the 6-9 record through 16 weeks.
