Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was impressive in his rookie campaign, and general manager John Dorsey thinks it's just the start of big things for the first overall pick. At times some in the media have questioned Mayfield's maturity, but that isn't something that Dorsey is concerned about.

“He’s mature beyond his age group and I’m just happy he’s a member of the Cleveland Browns organization and I can’t wait to see what he does next year,’’ Dorsey said Tuesday between practices at the Senior Bowl via Cleveland.com.”

Dorsey had his eyes on Mayfield early in the process last season but wanted to let it play out and not influence the rest of the organization, and let everyone come to their own conclusions.

According to Dorsey, as the process continued most in the room, all came to that same conclusion.

“I knew in my heart of hearts what he was back in the month of October, November, but I think you keep that to yourself and you listen to everybody,” Dorsey said. “You don’t want to influence the room and you want the room to have Baker earn their respect and I think he did that for everybody in the organization.’’

To start the season, Mayfield was the backup to Tyrod Taylor, but after Taylor went down with injury, Mayfield quickly took over the reins.

There were some growing pains adjusting to the NFL, but the positives far outweighed the negatives, and everyone around the Browns is excited to see what year two will bring.
