Prior to the Cleveland Browns acquiring veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills via a trade this offseason, the team reportedly went after after reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. They fell short of seriously getting the Eagles to consider sending him to Cleveland.

The Browns instead decided to bring in Taylor, and the organization has been quick to support and label him as the starter from the get-go for the 2018 season. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, general manager John Dorsey stated that the team is excited about having the 28-year-old Taylor in the fold when asked about Foles.

“Well I know this, we're very excited to have Tyrod Taylor as our starting quarterback,” Dorsey said. “I'm not going to talk about another team's player. You all know my position on that. He's with the Philadelphia Eagles and I won't talk about him.”

These comments make it clear that Dorsey at least attempted to pursue Foles, but obviously it didn't transpire into an agreed upon trade. The team has since moved on with Taylor being their starter regardless of their decision to bring in a young promising quarterback in Baker Mayfield in this year's draft at number one overall.

Taylor is a proven starter in the NFL, experiencing success with both his arm and legs that have made him a legitimate dual-threat quarterback. He is also coming off a season where he helped lead the Bills to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.

All of this has created a strong level of confidence from the Browns that Taylor can replicate that type of success with the team next season.
