The Cleveland Browns enjoyed a bit of a resurgence by their standards after finishing the 2018 NFL season with a 7-8-1 record. However, new head coach Freddie Kitchens is not as fond of their finish as the rest of the city is.

Cleveland was ecstatic to see their team finally capable of winning games. According to Michael Davis Smith of Pro Football Talk, Kitchens does not share that same sentiment.

“It drives me crazy that people are happy with 7-8-1,” Kitchens said. “It drives me literally crazy and if I was in a different setting, my vocabulary would demonstrate that. But that’s not acceptable. Nobody here wants that. We understand that was an improvement but under no circumstance is that ever going to be acceptable. We only have one goal here and that’s to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.”

Kitchens' comments are certainly understandable. There are not many teams that would find joy in a losing season. It is clear that the Browns new head coach does not even want to entertain the notion of putting up a similar record in the future.

Of course, it is easy to see where the excitement stems from. The Browns had endured perhaps the worst two-year stretch in sports. The fact that they were even able in playoff contention was more than enough for most fans.

Regardless, it is encouraging to see that Kitchens has high expectations for this team moving forward. There is good reason for him to be confident considering all the young talent on this roster. If they continue to progress the way that did this year, it is only a matter of time before playoffs become a starting point for them.
