When the Cleveland Browns drafted Baker Mayfield there were questions if he would be the starter week one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mayfield was impressive in the first game of the preseason and showed a lot of poise but even so, there is a good chance now that Mayfield isn't even the backup when the season starts. Instead, he might be the third string.

Hue Jackson told the media that he likes his backups to have NFL experience and that is something that Drew Stanton has.

“I've said from the beginning that I think experience is important,” Jackson said when asked about the Browns' backup quarterback position, per Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. “Right now, Drew still has that experience, and we'll see how that all unfolds as we go. I haven't made that choice just yet, but his veteran presence says a lot.

“He's played in a lot of games against a lot of teams that we are going to start off against and play against so I think that is important to definitely consider.”

After Mayfield received a lot of playing time in the first preseason game the Browns will be turning to Drew Stanton in game two hoping to see how he can perform in a game situation in the new offense.

There will probably be a much clearer picture of the Browns QB situation after this game. If Stanton performs well against Buffalo Bills he very well could wrap up the backup quarterback spot, at least for now.
