Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield appears to be performing well in his first-ever training camp. Browns head coach Hue Jackson was effusive in his praise of the No. 1 overall pick after he had a terrific showing in the fourth day of training camp.

“Baker Mayfield has been everything I thought a quarterback should be for our organization thus far,” Jackson said per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “He's doing the things that we want him to do the way we want him to do it and he's exceeding those things because he's putting in the time. He doesn't have a pride or (arrogance) any kind of way. His thing is, ‘you guys tell me what you need me to do and I'm going to do it' and that's what he's done since he's walked in the building and that's exciting, because that's a player that's eager to learn.”

Jackson also noted how receptive Mayfield has been in terms of listening and learning from veteran quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton.

The Browns have intentionally set expectations lower for Mayfield this season, which is why they plan to start the more experienced Taylor over the rookie despite the fact that he’s No. 1 overall pick. There were some question marks regarding how Mayfield would handle that situation, but it sounds as if he’s handling it much better than expected.

While Mayfield has been doing a fine job conducting himself in camp, there’s still a long way to go to determine if he truly is capable of being the franchise-altering quarterback the Browns believe he can be. But this is obviously a good start and a promising sign that he at least has the right attitude for the role.
