Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has endured a tumultuous NFL career, to say the least. However, he finally seems to be on track toward maintaining his job in the league after a late start to the 2017 NFL season. Gordan's return gives the Browns a proven weapon on the outside.

According to Nate Ulrich of Ohio.com, head coach Hue Jackson is hoping it could stay that way for years to come.

“Well, I think the first thing, if we tender him, which we will, that’s where he’ll be,” Jackson said. “But we want Josh Gordon to be a Cleveland Brown for a long time. We’ll see where that all goes, but he has to do his part in that. And we hope he will, and I’m sure he will.”

Gordon was slated to become an exclusive rights free agent following the March 14 deadline. However, it appears the Browns will offer him a tender to keep him around for the 2018 NFL season.

During that time, Cleveland will also have the option of working out a long-term deal with Gordon. Recent reports suggest that remains to be an option at this point.

It is likely that Hue Jackson and the Browns are waiting to see if Josh Gordon can last a full season following the NFL's policy on and off the field. There is no doubt that the former Pro Bowler is talented enough to play the position at a high level. Despite having not played for nearly three seasons, Gordon still managed to earn the praise of opposing cornerbacks during that last five games of the 2017 campaign. Unfortunately, the Browns may be understandably hesitant to sign him to a long-term deal due to his track record with drug and alcohol abuse.

Selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Gordon has played 40 games so far in his career and has racked up 3,089 receiving yards and 15 touchdown receptions. Gordon led the NFL in receiving yards in 2013, when he had 1,646.
