The Cleveland Browns took the field for the first time in the preseason on Thursday night against the New York Giants, which quarterback Tyrod Taylor put together a strong showing in his brief time on the field.

This has led to more confidence in Taylor from head coach Hue Jackson, who voiced after the game that beyond his play on the field he liked the leadership that he showed in the locker room and on the sidelines with his interactions with his teammates, according to Nate Ulrich of Ohio.com.

“[I like] the way he comes into the locker room, the way he gets his teammates ready to play and rallying our guys as we go out there on the field,” Jackson said. “That’s what you want your quarterback to be.

“The thing I love about him is he’s the same guy all the time — very calm, understands what the situation is and knows how to go play. It just feels like a big-time NFL quarterback. That’s what he is.”

Taylor has the previous experience of being the starting quarterback for another franchise having had that responsibility firmly in his hands with the Buffalo Bills. This has given him the knowing precisely what it takes to succeed in the NFL that allows for him to be more comfortable with the position while showing his leadership skills.

This is yet another element that could help Taylor keep the starting job heading into the 2018 season where he has a chance to make a significant impact with the team in his first year by leading them to success. His play on the field was quite encouraging for the Browns as he completed all five of his pass attempts for 99 yards that included a 36-yard touchdown connection with tight end David Njoku.

Rookie Baker Mayfield may have put together a solid outing by completing 11-of-20 passes for 212 yards, and a pair of touchdown passes, Taylor looks to have further strengthened the confidence in him from the coaching staff.
