Adam Gase used peculiar ways to motivate his players while head coach of the Miami Dolphins, including threatening to trade them to the Cleveland Browns — during their stretch of winning one game in two seasons.

It's one thing for fans to “meme” about a team's losing record. It's another for an opposing coach to threaten to trade them there.

Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry — who was traded from South Beach to Miami in the 2018 offseason — confirmed Gase's wrongdoings of threats in Miami. He said on the matter on Friday, via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan:

“Regardless of what tactics were used, or what was said, all of those things are in the past. I've decided to move on. I have no slack towards Adam. I believe he's a great coach; he calls plays well, I'm excited about the opportunity of the matchup.

I don't know exactly  why [Gase threatened to trade players to Cleveland]. And, again, I don't want to harp on the issue… I would like to move on.”

In the end, Gase traded Landry to Cleveland as he was wishing for a better contract on the franchise tag. After one year without the now-Brown, the Dolphins fired Gase and are now undergoing a massive rebuild to replicate Cleveland's lack of success before Landry's arrival.

Landry will get to face his former head coach on Monday. Now coaching the New York Jets, Gase's team will host Cleveland. Both teams are coming off of disappointing regular season-opening losses. The matchup should be an interesting one, even if Sam Darnold won't play due to mono.
