Odell Beckham Jr. caused a lot of ripples when he failed to attend Cleveland Browns organized team activities (OTAs), with even head coach Freddie Kitchens calling him out through the media.

But Jarvis Landry has come to the defense of his friend and teammate, saying he was merely trying to get in shape.

“Obviously he wanted to be here,” said Landry, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “He was just taking his time to make sure his body was right, and now he’s here and we’re all happy to see him.”

Beckham is participating in the Browns' mandatory minicamp, so, at the very least, the wide receiver is there when he has to be, but that won't stop critics from getting on his case, and it's honestly hard to blame them.

The whole reason why the New York Giants traded Beckham to the Browns was because of this type of behavior, as Beckham had skipped camp with the Giants, made controversial comments through the media and engaged in questionable off-the-field activities.

Still, there is no denying that when Beckham is on the field, he is one of the top wideouts in football.

The 26-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 77 receptions for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns, although he missed the final four games of the season due to a quad injury.

Beckham made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons in New York from 2014 through 2016, but over the last two years, he has played in just 16 contests combined due to injuries.
