In the wake of the tragic death of George Floyd, the Cleveland Browns held a team meeting on Monday to try and assess the situation going forward, and offensive guard Joel Bitonio shared details on the discussion, along with Jarvis Landry giving an emotional speech:

“We had a team meeting … yesterday to kind of kick off the week and get a feel for you know what’s going on, and everybody’s kind of in different parts of the country right now to really understand, you know the toll of what’s going on and I think the conclusion we came to is obviously there’s injustice in this world right now and people are hurting,” said Browns offensive guard Joel Bitonio, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. “You know, people need help, and we’re going to try and use our power and our position to help them.”

Bitonio added that Jarvis Landry, in particular, gave an emotional address to his Browns teammates:

“Jarvis came up and he spoke to the team for maybe 10 minutes yesterday and they just tried to tell us how we can use our platform a little bit better because I think the vast majority of people want to help,” said Bitonio. “They want to improve the situation. Jarvis was emotional when he spoke with the team and he just wants change. He wants you to be a part of it and really try and help.”

Landry is just one of many professional athletes who have spoken out on the circumstances surrounding Floyd, who was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis last week.

With NFL teams getting closer and closer to training camp, we will surely be hearing of more and more players and coaches making their thoughts on the matter known while trying to drive positive change in America.

Landry is preparing to enter his third season in Cleveland.
