The Cleveland Browns know Antonio Callaway needs some guidance. The rookie wide receiver, who has had a concerning past, has already gotten himself into trouble with his traffic stop citation for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license.

Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley has given the challenge of mentoring Callaway to Jarvis Landry, and the Browns’ new star wideout has already begun with some advice for his young teammate.

“You gotta be smart and that honestly was my only advice. Just being smart, taking care of yourself and understanding what you do effects yourself, your family and it still effects this organization,” Landry said per Matthew Florjancic of WYKC.

While Landry’s advice is simple and sensible, it’s often much easier said than done. That’s especially true for a 21-year-old like Callaway, who also didn’t display sound judgment during his checkered college career. It ended up hurting him in a big way as he fell to the fourth round in the draft despite possessing the talent to go much higher.

Apart from providing advice, Landry will have to be extra vigilant in terms of forcing Callaway to change his ways. That will not be a tough task by any means, but that’s what leaders like Landry have to do.

Callaway could be also worth all that effort. If he is able to impart Landry’s words of wisdom and get his life all straightened out, he could turn into a major asset for the Browns’ receiving game this season and beyond.
