Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry was happy to take his fifth straight trip to the Pro Bowl following a 2019 NFL season where his team fell vastly short of expectations. Unfortunately, it seems there was an unpleasant surprise waiting for him in Orlando.

Landry took to Twitter to question the rationale behind him getting drug tested at the Pro Bowl:

Landry's frustration is certainly understandable considering the Pro Bowl is supposed to be a time for the NFL's household names to unwind from the grind of a grueling season. However, it appears some players are still forced to deal with some of the bureaucracy that comes with a league event.

The Pro Bowl has caught plenty of flak for the lack of competitiveness in games throughout the years. This should come as no surprise since there is not much incentive for the players, such as Jarvis Landry, to risk the prospect of injury by going all out against each other. In fact, there are many that have opted to bow out of the festivities in order to get a head start on their recovery process in the offseason.

If anything, Landry's drug test only gives players another reason not to go through all the trouble of making the trip to the Pro Bowl. Most teams have been in offseason mode since the regular season ended nearly a month ago. It will be interesting to see if the NFL provides any sort of justification on testing athletes during a non-mandatory event where there is not much at stake to begin with.
