Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was caught on a hot mic making a joke about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the NFL's virtual owner meetings.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, a league official was taking roll call of all 32 teams when they called for Jones. However, Jones's microphone was still on mute, so the league official reminded him that he needed to take the microphone off mute.

Haslam decided to take a jab at Jones in wondering why they couldn't always keep him on mute. Haslam didn't have his microphone muted, so everyone on the call heard the comment.

“They should keep Jerry on permanent mute.”

It does appear that Haslam was joking with his comments, but was there a little truth to them? Even if Haslam does like Jones, the Cowboys owner is often outspoken, which could rub some of the other owners the wrong way.

Back in 2016, Jones had high praise for the Browns owner, saying he thought he was a top-five owner in the NFL:

“I’m totally convinced that the Browns are going to be a factor as we look to the years ahead,” Jones told Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository. “Jimmy Haslam came into the league as one of the very best owners that we have. I’d put him in the top five. Right now.

“I recognize that he hasn’t had the success. Not everybody does early on. We didn’t have early success. But he’s firing at it. He’s committed. He works just as hard at this as with anything he’s ever done.”

Most owners have a good relationship, but Jones talking less would make some happy.
