When it comes to character concerns about former University of Oklahoma star quarterback Baker Mayfield, there are already scouts who are comparing him to former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel. However, Browns general manager John Dorsey is not one of those people who is making that connection.

According to an article published by Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, Dorsey was asked about Mayfield's character concerns and shot the question back at reporters after Thursday's final Senior Bowl practice session.

“Are there character concerns about him?” Dorsey asked members of the media. “You guys create a narrative that you try to portray him as one.”

When Dorsey was reminded that the Heisman Trophy winner was arrested last summer for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest, the Browns GM defended Mayfield.

“Every young man will make a mistake in his life, I bet you,” Dorsey said. “And I think he's very remorseful of that mistake and I think he's moved forward from that, and he's trying to make himself a better person, going through the process.”

Aside from his off-field issues, Mayfield has had some questionable gestures on the field during games, including taunting the Kansas crowd by cursing at them and grabbing his crotch. However, Dorsey does not consider this a deal breaker by any means and loves Mayfield's competitiveness.

“He's done well,” Dorsey said of Mayfield's week at the Senior Bowl practices. “Again, he's one of those guys that's so competitive that he's passed the test here, and now it's how you play the game (on Saturday), so I think he'll do a good job. I wouldn't expect anything less from him because he's so competitive.”

How high in the 2018 NFL Draft will Mayfield be selected? As from what Dorsey has been saying about him, Mayfield is up in the quarterback conversation for the Browns' first overall pick with USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, and Wyoming's Josh Allen.
