It was revealed earlier this week that the Cleveland Browns engaged the Philadelphia Eagles in trade talks for Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. However, the Eagles ended up turning down the offer for Foles, and the Browns ended up acquiring Tyrod Taylor instead.

Taylor was asked about the Foles report and said it didn’t affect him. And when Dorsey was asked about it, he refused to answer and just talked about Taylor.

“Well I know this, we’re very excited to have Tyrod Taylor as our starting quarterback,” Dorsey said, via Cleveland.com. “I’m not going to talk about another team’s player. You all know my position on that. He’s with the Philadelphia Eagles and I won’t talk about him.”

While Dorsey decided not to address the Foles issue any further, it seems clear what went down with that whole situation.

As Foles showed during the Eagles’ run to the Super Bowl, he is a really good quarterback. The Browns had a need for a quarterback to start ahead of whomever they drafted. So they decided to see if the Eagles would trade Foles, who will likely be a backup again once Carson Wentz returns from injury. But since the Eagles declined their offer, they got another competent quarterback in Taylor instead.

The Browns were likely satisfied with how everything panned out in the end. They got the quarterback they were looking for to start ahead of No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield. While Taylor might not be as good as Foles, Foles is in the past and Taylor is their present. That's that.
