Since his return to the team, Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Josh Gordon has been limited in his involvement on the field after suffering a hamstring injury in his first practice just over a week ago.

However, Gordon has been able to get back on the practice field on Monday that has paved the way for him to be on track to take the field for the season opener. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, head coach Hue Jackson has voiced that notion that Gordon should be ready to play just not in the starting lineup.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said in a Monday press conference that Gordon is “right on schedule” to play against the Steelers. Jackson also reiterated that Gordon will not start the game and that rookie Antonio Callaway will get the nod with the first team alongside Jarvis Landry.

The reasoning behind Gordon not starting may be simply due to him not being around the team for the early portion of training camp due to getting treatment for his sobriety. There is a clear understanding from the 27-year-old that he will have to work his way back into the fold to earn his starting job back. Regardless of that being the case, it is clear that Gordon will be a factor in some capacity in the season opener against the Steelers.

In the five games that he played last season, he demonstrated that he can still play at an elite level making 18 catches on 43 targets for 335 receiving yards and a touchdown. Although it was a brief time on the field, Gordon had shown that he has plenty left in the tank to perform at a high level that he was prior to the lengthy suspension that he served due to violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

The table may be set for Gordon to re-establish himself as one of the game's most dynamic talents at wide receiver while creating a formidable duo in the passing game next to Jarvis Landry.
