The Cleveland Browns have another new starting quarterback to add to their collection.

Head coach Hue Jackson has decided to go with Kevin Hogan to start in place of rookie DeShone Kizer for the Browns’ upcoming game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra.

“I've made the decision to start Kevin this week,” Hue Jackson said in a statement Wednesday. “We've liked what Kevin has been able to do within our offense when he's been in there and he will start on Sunday because that's what we feel is best for our team at this point in time. This does not change the way we feel about DeShone going forward. He has worked extremely hard and still very much has a bright future. Right now, it's better for him and his development to back up Kevin.”

Kizer struggled and was benched in the second half of their 17-14 loss to the New York Jets in Week 5. He went 8-of-17 with 87 yards and committed two turnovers in the red zone. Hogan came in for Kizer and played well, going 16-of-19 for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

Hogan, who was the Browns’ fifth-round pick in 2016, had appeared in two other games earlier this season before replacing Kizer against the Jets. He’s got a 62.5 completion percentage with 481 passing yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions in seven career appearances, and is set to make his first start.

When Hogan does start, he will become the Browns' 28th starting quarterback since their return to the NFL in 1999.
