The Cleveland Browns managed to fill a void with the hiring of Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach. However, the question remains of who will be calling plays in the 2020 NFL season.

Stefanski says he still has yet to determine whether or not he is going to be the primary play-caller in Cleveland, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

“We’re gonna work through that,” Stefanski said. “I think as we put the staff together if there’s someone that’s on staff that I feel gives us the best chance to win, that person will call plays. It doesn’t have to be me, but I think I want to work through that and see as we put this staff together.”

Stefanski had served as the play-caller for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL season after being promoted to offensive coordinator. The prospect of him handing over the reins to someone else on his coaching staff may come as a surprise considering that was considered to be the biggest reason behind making the hire over San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

Regardless, it seems Stefanski is planning on keeping an open mind when it comes to developing a new approach for this talented Browns' offense. His top priority will be the development of quarterback Baker Mayfield and getting the rest of this star-studded cast on the same page. Of course, it will only be a matter of time before he will have to address who exactly is calling the shots on offense.
