Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett showed the type of promise during his rookie season which made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He finished with seven sacks, which is an impressive amount since he didn’t see as much game time as he would’ve liked. He missed the first quarter of the season due to injury and didn’t get to start until Week 7.

This season, Garrett intends to be on the field and make his mark for basically the entire game, and he’s taking the steps to improve his body to make that happen.

“I wanted to get in better shape, so I can be out there and make plays, create turnovers,” Garrett told the Akron Beacon Journal. “The last game of the season, I was going most of the game. I think I took five, maybe 10 plays off. That’s my goal — to be on the field as much as possible, so I can make as big of an impact as possible.”

The Browns are likely expecting something similar from their former No. 1 pick. While it was disappointing that he got off to a slow start due to injury last year, Garrett certainly showed when he was on the field last year just how much of a difference-maker he can be. And the longer he can stay on the field, the better for the Browns.

With better health as well as better strength and conditioning, Garrett should have a good chance to significantly improve upon his rookie year this season.
