Odell Beckham isn't walking back recent comments that suggested the Cleveland Browns are on the verge of becoming the league's next dynasty, just like the New England Patriots. The superstar wide receiver, though, nevertheless felt the need to address them in a series of messages posted to his Instagram story on Thursday.

“Just to clarify, I will always aspire to be great,” he wrote, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “I haven’t reached that point in the NFL but that’s what we all chase and I’m going to continue to work to help the Browns become great. [I] never meant the Browns are the new Patriots or going to be the new Patriots. I just have great respect for what they’ve done but definitely recognize the work that has to be done to get there.”

Beckham went on to defend his initial remarks, pondering why every player in the league doesn't aspire to help their team enjoy the unprecedented level of success New England has over the last two decades.

“There’s nothing wrong with having aspirations, and who wouldn’t aspire to be part of an organization that is 12-4, 11-5 and in the playoffs and playing for Super Bowls on the regular?” he asked. “It’s really stating the obvious when you say you want your organization to be successful like the Patriots. I know my teammates want to be a part of building something like that.”

A three-time Pro Bowler, Beckham was traded to the Browns from the New York Giants in March in exchange for safety Jabrill Peppers and first and third-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. Like many NFL players, analysts, and fans, he hasn't hesitated to express optimism about his new team's prospects going forward in wake of a splashy offseason that some believe suddenly makes Cleveland a contender in the AFC.

Last week, a story was published for GQ in which Beckham was quoted as saying he is “trying to bring as many championships” to Cleveland as possible, “turning [the Browns] into the new Patriots.” Beckham also compared Baker Mayfield to Brett Favre, and predicted the No. 1 overall pick of last year's draft will be a Hall of Famer.
