The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to release veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, giving the longtime NFL defender the chance to sign elsewhere this offseason. With Tampa Bay allowing McCoy to walk after presumably attempting to trade him first, McCoy will be free to sign with whichever franchise will have him — including the up-and-coming Cleveland Browns.

Acquiring notable player after notable player over the course of the last two seasons, the Cleveland could now become the next stop for McCoy as well. Former New York Giants and current Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. would certainly love to have the now former Buccaneers defensive tackle in Cleveland.

The 31-year-old McCoy has notably spent his entire nine-year NFL playing career in Tampa Bay as it stands today. Now slated to make the move to his second NFL home, McCoy could have many options upon officially testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent. With the Browns serving as one of the many possibilities, the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots and several others could all become suitors sooner rather than later as well.

The Buccaneers originally selected McCoy with the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. Throughout his 123 career regular season appearances, he has recorded 297 total tackles, 54.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and 21 pass defenses.

As for the typically lowly Browns, Cleveland remains the early favorite to win the AFC North division in 2019.
