The Cleveland Browns have struggled to get wide receiver Odell Beckham going throughout the first half 2019 NFL season. On Sunday, it may have cost them. On a crucial fourth-down, quarterback Baker Mayfield opted to throw it to wide receiver Jarvis Landry in double coverage rather than an open Beckham down the sideline.

The pass was broken up. The Denver Broncos secured the 24-19 victory. It appears Beckham is not angry with Mayfield's decision to try and find Landry. Via ESPN's Jake Trotter:

“It’s something I’m not mad at. I would throw to 80 (Landry) on fourth down 10 times out of 10.”

Beckham can get a bad rap for his boisterous personality on the field. However, that's precisely the reassuring response that the Browns would hope (and need) to get from one of their star players.

Beckham's comments are also indicative of the amount of confidence he has in Landry during those clutch situations. Of course, this should come as no surprise since the two are good friends and know full well what each other is capable of since their days at LSU.

Although it is encouraging to hear Beckham praise his teammates, there is no question that Mayfield made the wrong choice by going to Landry. Ultimately, it cost Cleveland the game. Beckham has not scored a touchdown since Week 2 and their inability to get him involved has started to catch up to them. The Browns' playoff window has now, seemingly, been shut closed by a Denver team that was also looking for its third win of the year.
