Cleveland Browns pass rusher Olivier Vernon and tight end David Njoku will not play in their team's game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

In Vernon's case, this will be the third straight contest he has missed due to a knee injury.

Over the course of the eight games that Vernon has played this season, he has logged 23 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. The Browns acquired Vernon in a trade with the New York Giants back in March.

The 29-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Miami Dolphins, with his best season coming in 2013 when he racked up 57 tackles and 11.5 sacks.

Vernon then joined the Giants in free agency in 2016 and resided in New York for three years, making one Pro Bowl in 2018 after posting 30 tackles, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 11 games.

Meanwhile, Njoku suffered a wrist injury in Week 2 and was placed on the injured reserve list. He is eligible to return this week, but it looks like Cleveland is being extra cautious with him.

Njoku was expected to be an integral piece in the Browns' offense this year thanks to a 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 56 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

The third-year pro was originally selected by Cleveland in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Browns have won two games in a row, but they are still just 4-6 overall and may very well need to run the table in order to make the playoffs.
