The Cleveland Browns seem to be heading in the right direction. A good portion of the credit deserves to go to Baker Mayfield—who PFF (Pro Football Focus) just put an interesting statistic out on.

According to PFF, Mayfield had a grade of 97.5 on deep passes in his rookie season last year. That grade ranked fourth among all qualified quarterbacks in 2018.

The Browns came into 2018 as the laughing stock of the NFL but Mayfield has helped shift the culture. Coming into 2019, there are people who are legitimately considering Cleveland as a Super Bowl contender.

Browns fans are ecstatic to have Mayfield under center for the foreseeable future. Last season, the Browns were able to make big plays on offense with weapons like Jarvis Landry, David Njoku, Antonio Callaway, and Rashard Higgins.

The Browns and John Dorsey aren't in the business of remaining with the status quo though now. This offseason, the Browns were able to somehow land Odell Beckham Jr. in a trade with the New York Giants.

Therefore, Mayfield may be able to have an even better deep pass grade for PFF after 2019. Fans in Cleveland were delighted to get a player of Beckham's caliber, while Giants fans were distraught to see one of their best players get shipped away.

In addition, Mayfield was also seventh in the NFL in intended air yards per pass in 2018. Surprisingly, Mayfield only had .01 less intended air yards per pass than Patrick Mahomes last season.

The Browns are an up and coming team that has something special brewing.

Part of that can be accredited to Mayfield being efficient on his deep passes.
