The Cleveland Browns feared the worst when safety Grant Delpit was carted off the field for an Achilles injury. Unfortunately, their concerns about a serious injury have been realized.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Delpit reportedly suffered a torn Achilles.

Ian Rapoport confirmed the MRI result, a devastating moment for the Browns:

The Browns selected Delpit with the No. 44 pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and was slated to establish himself as quite a steal by emerging as a bonafide starter on defense. Although there has not been an official report on his injury, it is same to assume that the rookie is slated to miss the entire 2020 NFL season.

This is hardly an ideal start to Delpit's Browns career following a stellar tenure at LSU. He racked up 38 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass defenses during the Tigers' successful National Championship run. However, it seems his start in the NFL is going to be delayed by the injury.

With Delpit out, Cleveland will now look to safety Andrew Sendejo to help fill the void. While his experience should help serve as a stabilizing factor in the Browns' secondary, the front office could assemble more depth given the number of untested players in this group.

The Browns have been plagued by the injury bug to start training camp with linebacker Mack Wilson and cornerback greedy Williams each missing time. While the goal for every team is to make it to the regular season as healthy as possible, the restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have only magnified these challenges.
