The Cleveland Browns are geared up to splurge on their turnaround this offseason with a bevy of quality picks and plenty of cap space. However, that is not to say they will do away with all the new talent they have acquired as of late.

Although it was not an ideal start to his NFL career, there is still plenty of optimism surrounding the young Jabrill Peppers. Special teams coach Amos Jones is especially excited to have him assume return duties for the 2018 NFL season, according to Andrew Gribble of the team website.

“The biggest thing with him . . . is taking that first year and the lessons you learned,” Jones said. “His college tape was obviously good. The other thing is he is a downhill runner. If you get the ball in his hands, he can be elusive enough to make people miss.”

Jones, though, said Peppers has a chance to become a “really special returner.”

Peppers generated some buzz after establishing himself as one of the best all-purpose players in college football. Not only were the Browns in desperate need of some help in the secondary, but they felt Peppers' electrifying return ability could provide a spark in the team's rebuild moving forward. As a result, he was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, Peppers fell vastly short in both departments this year. He averaged just 6.0 yards on 30 punt returns and 22.7 yards on 14 kickoff returns. He also managed to start in 13 games at safety for the Browns, registering 57 tackles and one interception. That said, maybe some success in the return game next season could help could help with his overall performance on defense.
