The NFL's three-day hearing of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is over. Now, we wait. This is according to Pro Football Talk, which reports that Judge Sue L. Robinson asked the opposing sides to submit written briefs favoring their positions by Monday, July 11. Then, she will make the final decision on Watson's potential suspension.

When Judge Robinson obtains the briefings, she will write a lengthy document with findings of fact that will be binding on the appeals process (per PFT). After this, Robinson will apply the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy and other relevant considerations to the facts to make a final decision.

Judge Robinson became the disciplinary officer for the case as a result of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement finalized in March of 2020. It reworked the league's disciplinary action under the Person Conduct Policy. Now, the NFL and NFL Player's Association jointly appoint the disciplinary officer, rather than the NFL Commissioner and accusers.

The appeals process will begin following Robinson's decision unless she decides that no disciplinary action is necessary. When all is said and done, the final decision will likely be written and published by the end of July (per PFT).

Right now, there are multiple different scenarios for Watson. He could be facing an indefinite suspension. There have also been talks of a one-year suspension. In either scenario, the Browns are without a quarterback.

On the other hand, there's always the possibility that Judge Robinson decides not to impose disciplinary measures. If that's the case, Watson is expected to be the Browns' starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
