Since Baker Mayfield has taken over for the Cleveland Browns the offense has been more efficient and it has raised questions about whether Tyrod Taylor will request a trade midseason. Browns coach Hue Jackson has made it very clear that he would like to keep Taylor around as a captain and as a mentor for Mayfield.

Taylor was asked as the deadline nears if he might request a trade and he seemed to deny it, but also said it was something that should be directed to his agent.

“You never know. I mean, I’m well aware of all that, Taylor said via ESPN. I don’t necessarily put it on my thought process every day. I come out each and every day aiming to get better and trying to find things to work on in my game.

“We’ll see. That’s more of a question for my agent. We talk. I wouldn’t necessarily reveal that to the media.”

The trade deadline is on October 30th and Taylor is in the final year of his contract, so it's still a possibility the Browns could also decide they want to trade him, even if the quarterback isn't the one to request it.

With Taylor being a free agent this summer if he was traded and given a starting role, it would be a good chance to gain some market value before he tries to sign a new contract this summer. Jackson said after Mayfield was announced the starter, that Taylor was still a huge part of the team.

“Tyrod is going to be needed. He is the backup quarterback on this team if he is healthy, and he has played. His teammates know who he is and how he goes about the rhythm of his game. I think it is always good to have that kind of depth at that position, especially if we are travelling down this road, which we are.”

There is still a bit of time before the trade deadline and a lot of things could change and right now Taylor is not ruling out a trade could happen.
