The Cleveland Browns’ offseason kicked off early, as they were not able to reach the playoffs, though, that does not mean that they aren’t busy these days. Among the things that are keeping them occupied is their search for the team’s next head coach. In a report by Dustin Fox of ESPN, the Browns seem to be zeroing in on Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

Keep an eye on Colts DC Matt Eberflus.. hearing the Browns very interested.

In fact, the Browns have already interviewed Eberflus Sunday, a day after the Colts defeated the Houston Texans, 21-7, on the road to advance to the AFC Divisional Round, where the Kansas City Chiefs await Indianapolis.

If Eberflus needed to sprinkle his resume with some additional glitters, he got just that in the Houston game, as the Colts’ defense limited the Texans to only 322 total yards.

Should Eberflus win the Cleveland job, he’ll inherit a talented bunch of young defensive pieces in the likes of linebacker Joe Schobert, safety Jabrill Peppers, cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Damarious Randall, and defensive ends Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah.

In only a season with the Colts, Eberflus was able to transform the team’s defense into one of the best in the NFL. In 2017, the Colts were 29th in total defense with 367.1 total yards allowed per game. In 2018, the team finished the regular season ranked 11th in the league with opponents coming up with an average of only 338.4 total yards per game after 17 weeks.
