Since the New Orleans Saints saw their season end in the divisional round of the playoffs, quarterback Drew Brees has made it clear that he plans on re-signing with the team.

If things were to change in that regard, the Cleveland Browns could be one of the teams that enter the picture as a possible landing spot. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Browns' projected salary cap space could give them the ability to present Brees a record-breaking one-year offer in free agency.

The Browns are estimated to have a whopping $110 million in 2018 salary cap space, meaning they’re first in the league in cap space by more than $30 million. Cleveland could offer Brees an insane contract. Cleveland could sign him to a one-year, $50 million contract and the Browns would still have $60 million in cap space, which would still be more than all but four other teams.

This would account for nearly half of the salary cap space that the Browns will have at their disposal over the offseason. The front office would have more than enough financial flexibility to make additional splashes in free agency to acquire more talent to the roster alongside Brees.

However, the likelihood that the 39-year-old would seriously consider joining the Browns is slim at best. This type of contract could push Brees to at least listen to the offer, but the fact that it is coming from one of the more poorly run organizations in the league makes hard to believe that there is any realistic possibility that he joins the team.

If anything, it appears to be inevitable that Brees re-signs with the Saints as the team has put together a roster that can compete for a Super Bowl. New Orleans finally features a balanced offense behind their Pro Bowl duo in Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. Meanwhile, the defense appears to have turned the corner with the infusion of young talent in the secondary through the draft.

Until there is any major change on this front for either Brees and the Saints, this chatter involving the Browns will remain out of the picture.
