The Boston Bruins lost 4-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night. But that wasn't all that they lost. On Wednesday, it was announced that Bruins' forward Brad Marchand has been suspended for six games for roughing and high sticking against Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry.

NHL Player Safety announced the ban Wednesday night after having a meeting with Marchand earlier in the day.

With under a minute remaining in the game Tuesday night, and the Bruins trailing by two goals, Marchand appeared to take a swing at Jarry. The Penguins goalie had just covered up the puck and might have said something that bothered the Bruins winger.

As Marchand was being pulled away, he got his stick up near the face of Jarry as well. He was given a two minute minor for roughing and a five minute match penalty for attempt to injure.

This is the second time the Bruins winger has been suspended this season. He was previously suspended for three games after an altercation with slew-footed Vancouver Canucks' Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Marchand is not new to this type of behavior. He has been suspended eight times during his career. This will be the longest suspension of all eight. The NHL Player Safety acknowledged that Marchand's past offenses played a part in the decision, as noted by ESPN's Kristen Shilton.

“Players who repeatedly violate league playing rules will be severely punished for each new violation… Marchand has been suspended seven times, and fined five times previously.”

It is not known yet if Boston's Marchand will appeal the suspension. The Bruins are 26-15-3, in 7th place in the Eastern Conference.
