After much speculation over the past week, now-former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady elected to call it a career on Tuesday after 22 seasons in the NFL.

Longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre watched Brady’s career as both a competitor and as a fan. As the Hall of Fame passer explained to SiriusXM NFL Radio, Brady’s career will be difficult for any current or future quarterback to match for a number of reasons.

“What a career,” Favre said. “I don't know if in our generation we will see anything even close to it. I just don't know if anyone wants to play 22 years, and if you do, there's a lot of things that can go wrong throughout that journey.

“To me, I think about my career and think about mine and compare it to Tom… It's one thing to play with injury and that's gonna happen. It's another to be good long enough and consistent enough that they don't replace you.”

As Favre touched on, Brady simply never had a downturn over the course of his storied run in the league. Even as a multitude of quarterbacks before him saw a decline in play once they hit their early 40s, this was not the case for Brady. Even at age 44, he managed to lead the NFL in passing yards (5,316) and passing touchdowns (43), as he earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections for the 2021 campaign.

More so, the now-former Buccaneers passer only had one campaign be riddled by injury, which came in his 2008 season with the New England Patriots when he missed 15 games after suffering a season-ending torn ACL injury in Week 1.

For the Buccaneers, a new era now awaits them, as much attention will be centered on just who will start at quarterback for them come Week 1 of the 2022 campaign.
