Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians knows a thing or two about Jameis Winston and what he's capable of.

However, it seems like he has more faith in Taysom Hill as a starter than Winston at this point.

Winston's former head coach was asked if he was surprised Hill was chosen as the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback over Winston, and the Buccaneers head coach didn't hold back.

“No. Not really,” Bruce Arians said, per Jenna Laine of ESPN. “He's a dynamic guy. He throws the ball a lot better than people think. He's been there longer.”

While longevity and seniority on the team may have an impact, many around the league initially thought Jameis Winston was the clear backup to Drew Brees in New Orleans. That is obviously not the case. Whether or not Taysom Hill is ready to be a full-time quarterback is something that has yet to be determined.

This is another setback for Winston who, following an up-and-down 2019 season, was not brought back by Arians and the Buccaneers, choosing instead to sign Tom Brady. Thus far for Arians and the Bucs, the move is working as Tampa Bay holds a 7-3 record and in second place in the NFC South. They are half a game back on the Saints, who are 7-2.

Winston would have loved to have been able to prove his old team wrong by keeping the Saints in first place while Brees is out, but that task will now be undertaken by Hill for the foreseeable future. Arians seems to agree that he is the man for the job.
