The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have generated plenty of hype with the arrival of quarterback Tom Brady this offseason. Of course, offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is well aware that there is still plenty of work to be done before being dubbed as bonafide Super Bowl contenders.

Tom Brady will be tasked with learning an entirely new system for the first time in two decades. Leftwich feels that alone comes with its own set of challenges, via Kyle Wood of the Tampa Bay Times:

“I think the greatest challenge is this: He’s been somewhere for 20 years,” Leftwich said of Tom Brady. “You guys know, some of you may have worked at the same job for 20 years. And you’ve done something for 20 years in one spot and there’s change, it’s automatically different. It doesn’t matter if it’s for better or for worse, it’s just different. And I try to communicate with him. I want him to just talk football…”

Leftwich's comments are indicative of some of the more overlooked challenges that comes with players joining a new team. The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have only made it more difficult for both sides to get properly assimilated with the new approach on offense. Tom Brady is aware of the challenge.

Fortunately, Leftwich seems to be adamant about fine-tuning the Bucs' approach around Tom Brady.

Furthermore, it is safe to assume that his pedigree as a six-time Super Bowl champ means it should not take Tom Brady long to get a firm grasp of the playbook. However, the biggest challenge will be finding ways to maximize the potential of this star-studded offense.

There is certainly no shortage of talent for Tom Brady to work with, especially since he will be joined by Rob Gronkowski. The onus will ultimately fall on Leftwich and Bruce Arians to make it come to fruition.
