The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to be on the verge of making a big decision on wide receiver Chris Godwinagain.

Last year, the Buccaneers opted to use the franchise tag on Godwin and if they and the wideout couldn't agree on a long-term deal by Tuesday afternoon, Tampa Bay will likely retain him for another year via the franchise tag route, according to Dianna Russini of ESPN.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently working on a long term contract for receiver Chris Godwin. If a deal is not struck between the two sides by 4pm today, expect Tampa Bay to tag him for the second consecutive year, per sources. One source “This could come down to the wire”

Godwin has been one of the most reliable downfield options for the Buccaneers and played a pivotal role in their Super Bowl run in the 2021 NFL campaign. However, he was not able to help the team in the 2022 NFL playoffs after he suffered tears in his ACL and MCL late in the 2021 regular season. Despite the severity of the injuries he sustained, the Buccaneers remain interested in keeping him on their roster.

Selected in the third round (85th overall) by the Buccaneers in the 2017 NFL Draft, Godwin has appeared in 72 regular season games and produced 4,643 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns on 342 receptions.

Whether he'd still be effective on the field once healthy even without Tom Brady targeting him is something that's going to be intriguing to see.
