Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is due for a contract extension with the NFC South club after his breakout 2019 NFL season.

Godwin, 23, recorded 86 catches for 1,333 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns scored in 14 games last year. The third-year receiver out of Penn State, a third-round selection by the Buccaneers, could be nearing on a long-term deal to stay in Tampa Bay, with even second-year head coach Bruce Arians calling the priority of an extension with Godwin “high.”

Godwin took to Instagram to motivate himself, and ostensibly others, with an inspiring quote and message for his sticktoitiveness (via Bucs Wire).

“Keep going,” Godwin wrote on the Instagram Story over an inspirational quote preaching patience and trust in hard work.

Godwin earned his first Pro Bowl selection for his 2019 performance despite the Buccaneers narrowly missing the NFL postseason at 7-9. While Tampa Bay had a high-octane offense powered by the league's leading passer (and pick-thrower) Jameis Winston, a free agent this offseason, the Floridian franchise was not good enough all-around to clinch a playoff berth.

Nevertheless, the Bucs would not have been that close without Godwin's on-field heroics. Even so, Godwin was not alone in putting up big numbers on offense for Tampa Bay, as sixth-year veteran wideout Mike Evans trailed him closely, with the three-time Pro-Bowler tallying 1,157 receiving yards on 67 catches for eight touchdowns.

While Godwin's extension appears to be in the works, the franchise still has to decide whether to re-sign Winston or not. Despite the rising fourth-year wide receiver impressing, he may have to adjust to a new quarterback soon.
