The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without one of their top receivers in Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Chris Godwin has officially been ruled out against the Panthers as he’s still recovering from his concussion he suffered last week against the New Orleans Saints.

The 24-year-old entered concussion protocol on Wednesday and was listed as doubtful. However, the Bucs downgraded him on Saturday as “out”.

“Chris Godwin is in the concussion protocol,” Arians said after Wednesday’s practice. “He did not show any symptoms Monday or Tuesday and then showed up today with some, so we’re gonna be very, very cautious with that.”

Godwin played outstanding during Week 1, catching six of the seven passes thrown to him for 79 yards. However, during the fourth quarter, Godwin took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Saints safety D.J. Swearinger, which might’ve been the cause of his concussion.

With Godwin’s absence, Tom Brady will have to rely on Mike Evans and Scotty Miller to avoid starting the season 0-2. The good news is that Miller also played outstanding last week, as he caught five receptions for 73 yards against the Saints. He could very much be the X-Factor in Week 2’s game against the Panthers.

Nevertheless, Sunday’s matchup against the Panther is certainly an important game for the Bucs. Starting the season off 0-2 in a competitive NFC South could very much be a problem for Tom Brady and the Bucs.

The Bucs matchup against the Carolina Panthers will kick off at 1 p.m. ET tomorrow on FOX.
