Jameis Winston's tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to a close the moment that the franchise inked Tom Brady to a contract back in March. Winston, a former No. 1 overall pick, is coming off a season in which he threw for a career-high (and league-high) 5,109 yards, but even with that in mind, Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen feels as if he “failed” Winston.

“In some ways, I feel like I failed him,” Christensen said on The Pat McAfee Show, via the Tampa Bay Times. “As a coach, you take that personal. Whatever, I didn’t get it done. I didn’t help this kid. This kid is better than 30 interceptions and we didn’t get it done and that I have to live with. But I do think he’s a great kid and he’s going to some great things.”

In addition to leading the league in passing, Winston led the league in interceptions with 30. For as impressive as his arm has been over his first five professional seasons, Winston's bugaboo has been tossing the ball to the opposite-colored jersey, no matter who has served as his quarterbacks coach.

Christensen has extensive experience as both a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in the NFL, having begun his career in 1999 as Tampa Bay's QB coach. Although, he's never quite worked with the talent of Brady, who many see as a significant upgrade.

Where Winston heads next remains to be seen, but regardless of his next destination, he'll be working to cut down on the turnovers.
