Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson may sit out the remainder of the regular season, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Laine, ESPN’s Bucs beat writer, said in an appearance on the Ron and Ian Show on WDAE Tampa Bay that “it’s quite possible” Jackson doesn’t play again for the rest of the season as he deals with a thumb injury.

But aside from his injury, Jackson has made his frustration with the Buccaneers well-known this season, which has cast major doubts about his future with the team next year.

Apart from the Bucs once again being far away from playoff contention, Jackson has also expressed his displeasure over his role on the team.

Jackson reportedly requested a trade from Tampa Bay before the trade deadline, although he was not dealt despite interest from other teams. Jackson has caught 40 passes for 750 yards and 4 touchdowns this season.

If Jackson does indeed sit out the final four games of the season, that would give second-year wideout Chris Godwin more touches.

Godwin, who was the team’s third-round pick last year, has had a strong sophomore campaign with 49 catches for 676 yards and five touchdowns. He had five catches for 101 yards and one touchdown in the Bucs’ win over the Panthers last week as he filled in for the injured Jackson.

The Buccaneers conclude their regular season against the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and Atlanta Falcons, which they might have to play without Jackson.
