The Tampa Bay Buccaneers notably selected former LSU Tigers linebacker Devin White with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

With White receiving an immense amount of praise throughout the spring, NFL.com has since compared the up-and-comer to current Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack, who previously served as a collegiate standout for the UCLA Bruins.

“Running back convert out of high school who continues to show rapid development as a high-impact linebacker in a physical conference,” reads his 2019 NFL Draft profile on NFL.com. “White is still learning to take on blocks and play with better control/efficiency, but he's a willing pupil and coaching should improve both areas. White's work ethic, competitiveness, and rare play speed are elements that can't be taught and should push him into an early starter's role and a successful NFL career.”

It hardly came as a surprise that White came off the board so quickly, though. With the Buccaneers really needing to upgrade the team's linebacker group in the absence of current San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander, adding White was presumably a no-brainer as Tampa Bay was on the clock at No. 5 overall.

The only players that were drafted ahead of White were Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams and Oakland Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell. However, the controversy actually began at No. 6 overall, one spot behind White, as the New York Giants opted to select former Duke Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones.
