Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul will be out for at least six weeks as he recovers from injuries he sustained in a car accident back in May, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He has been placed on the non-football injury list.

Pierre-Paul is coming off of a Renaissance year in 2018 in which he racked up 58 tackles, 12.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in what was his first season with the Buccaneers after coming over in a trade with the New York Giants.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Florida, was originally selected by the Giants in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie year, logging 22 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, a pair of fumble recoveries, and six passes defended.

Then, the following season, Pierre-Paul broke out, racking up 93 tackles, 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and seven passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection. He also helped lead the Giants to a Super Bowl title.

But since then, Pierre-Paul's career has been up and down.

He totaled a modest 66 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2012, and in 2013, he posted just 27 tackles and two sacks in 11 games, as injuries hindered him throughout the season.

The Deerfield Beach, Fl. native bounced back in 2014, registering 77 tackles and 12.5 sacks, but that ensuing offseason, he suffered a severe injury on his hand as a result of a fireworks accident and had to have his right index finger amputated.

He logged one sack in eight games in 2015, and in 2016 and 2017, he totaled seven and 8.5 sacks, respectively, before being dealt to Tampa Bay.
