Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh made it clear that he does not intend to be defensive tackle Gerald McCoy's replacement. Unfortunately, he has only managed to further solidify that notion.

The Bucs parted with McCoy after nine seasons this offseason before subsequently signing Suh. He revealed that he will also be wearing the same number as his predecessor, via Twitter:

The fact that Ndamukong Suh would wear No. 93 is not unfamiliar, since it was his college number during his days at Nebraska. Although he wore No. 90 during the bulk of his career with the Detroit Lions, he has sported No. 93 in his last two stints with the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams. It is clear that he has grown rather comfortable with No. 93.

Regardless, he failed to note that the number was worn by the player he so adamantly said he would not be replacing. Despite his unceremonious departure, McCoy enjoyed an illustrious career in Tampa and made plenty of memories in the same jersey. Suh's attempts to dispel any notion of replacement will be much more difficult when he takes the field in 2019.

While Suh may be doing what he can to carve out his own path, it is safe to say that fans will be happy if he can serve as a viable successor. McCoy's departure left a huge void up front for the Bucs' defense. They will look to the veteran to fill in as the anchor next season.
