Taysom Hill has established himself as a Swiss Army knife with the New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald is hoping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can implement the same creativity with his skill set.

Although Fitzgerald played quarterback at Mississippi State, his passing numbers were nothing to marvel at going into the NFL Draft. According to Greg Auman of The Athletic, he is open to playing wherever Tampa Bay needs him:

“I’m going to walk in the first day not knowing exactly what to expect, probably,” he said. “Right now, I expect to go in as a quarterback and try to learn this system purely as a quarterback. When you know the system as a quarterback, you can go run a route, you know what each receiver is doing and how they’re doing it, so it might be a little easier. I could also be in multiple rooms on multiple days.”

Fitzgerald added that he would not mind taking on a role similar to Hill's in New Orleans.

“I have no problem being a quarterback, but also going to run a route, take a jet sweep, go run down on special teams,” he said. “I’d be ecstatic if they looked at me and said, ‘You can return kicks like they let Taysom Hill.’ I would be really excited to do that.”

Like Hill, Fitzgerald's biggest attribute is his athleticism. The 6-foot-5, 226-pound Fitzgerald rushed for more yards than any quarterback in SEC history. While he may have struggled with his efficiency in the pocket, the Bucs could certainly make good use of another playmaker on their roster.

The process has worked out quite nicely for Hill in New Orleans. Head coach Sean Payton has found a way to utilize his unique skill set — not only on offense, but on defense and special teams as well. It is safe to say that the Saints envision an even larger role for him. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if the Bucs can find a way to do the same with Fitzgerald in the 2019 NFL season.
