What's the secret to Tom Brady's long and lustrous career? Hard work, determination, passion? Nope. It's all about protection. At least according to his former New England Patriots teammate Richard Seymour.

Seymour jokingly told Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand in their show on NBC Sports that the only reason why the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is still playing in the league is because the Patriots took care of him physically.

“It doesn't hurt that they protect the quarterback,” Richard Seymour said in jest. “We can't touch him in practice, keeping the red jersey on him. I could play for 30 or 40 years doing that.”

Obviously, the former defensive linesman was just playing around given that him and Brady go way back. The two played a total of eight seasons for the Patriots, winning three Super Bowl championships together and forming a solid bond on and off the field. Brady has even gone on the record in endorsing Seymour for the 2020 NFL Hall of Fame class.

In the same interview, Seymour said that it's no surprise that the 42-year old is still in the league.

“It's just a testament to his hard work and commitment. He's always been a heck of a competitor and always wanting to compete and to compete at the highest level

After 20 seasons with the Patriots franchise, Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers this offseason, stating that he wanted a new challenge in what seems to be the twilight years of his professional career. Hopefully, the Bucs can give Brady some much-needed protection to help preserve the star quarterback.
