After a sluggish start to the year on the backend of the defense, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement with Richard Sherman on a one-year deal.

Sherman announced his signing with the Buccaneers on his podcast.

“I finally had enough conversations and came to the decision that I'm going to go play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers…I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out and put some great tape on, to lead another group. I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to go out there and execute and help that team win.”

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that it's a one-year deal for Sherman with the Buccaneers.

Sherman noted in his podcast the off-field issues he has had during the offseason that gained plenty of attention and were tossed right into the spotlight. Despite that, he said there was interest from many teams including the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers and of course, the Buccaneers.

He also mentioned there was encouragement from Tom Brady to sign with the Buccaneers.

The secondary for the Buccaneers has dealt with multiple injuries already just three weeks into the season and after getting lit up by Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, they decided to make a move.

What Sherman's role will be exactly with the Buccaneers secondary is yet to be seen but it's probable that he will see plenty of snaps and game action once he gets acclimated with his new team and new defensive scheme.

Clearly Tampa Bay isn't sitting around this year hoping that things fall into place.
