Tampa Bay Buccaneers new tight end Rob Gronkowski seemed to be angling for a professional wrestling gig after he retired from the NFL following the 2018 season.

But practically just as Gronkowski's WWE career was just getting started, he decided to come out of retirement and play football again.

Gronkowski had just won the 24/7 title at Wrestlemania 36 earlier this month, and it looked like this would be the introduction to his wrestling career.

Two weeks later, however, Gronkowski stated his desire to return to the NFL and play with former quarterback Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers sent a fourth-round pick to the New England Patriots in order to acquire Gronk, whose focus will shift back to football.

Gronkowski will indeed honor his contract and refrain from wrestling (via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk):

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Gronkowski is done with wrestling for now.

Gronk, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus, will honor his contract. Technically, honoring the contract means complying with paragraph 3 of the Standard Player Contract, which says that “[p]layer will not play football or engage in activities related to football otherwise than for Club or engage in any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury.”

However, it is certainly possible Gronkowski could elect to return to the WWE once he really hangs up the spikes for good.

Regardless, Gronkowski's priorities have shifted. He will hope to help Brady and co. win a Super Bowl or even multiple titles, depending on how long his return lasts.
